Over the past decades divine magic has all but been forgotten as the demons rose from the core at night and the only power that could stop them was the defensive ward-based arcane magic. Wards are runes that are drawn in any medium that fend off the demons that appear every night. There are three moons (white, red, and black) and the intensity of the demon attacks varies with the light of the moons, from full onslaught in the darkest nights of a horrific total black moon to virtually no attacks when the white moon shines in blossom. The Demons are elemental based. Fire, Wind and Rock demons are commonly known to attack Arlodon, but you have been taught about other corelings that spawn from sand, wood, water, etc.
You all live in New Harbor, a heavily secured area of the merchant city of Arlodon, where your Elders’ have kept you safe behind multiple ward nets. You have seen the demons in the distance as they pound the wards, testing for weaknesses, but never been close enough to be in danger. You have been trained by teachers that your elders have brought into your protected city. It is a sheltered life, one that you long to break free from, while at the same time fear being out from behind the protective barriers.
You have all been taught the basics of warding magic, the wards are all that keep you safe. Wardcrafters are the most highly respected craftsmen in society. All the wards you know or have heard of are defensive runes, protection from the demons. Messengers are also highly respected, and even more rare than Wardcarfters, having to traverse the demon infested lands between protected cities.
Over the last few months you have noticed that the food supply has been getting a little sparse and your trainers have been showing up rarely. Your elders are on edge, they are whispering about Wardcrafters disappearing and factions working in league with the demons.
Religion has all but fallen apart and most people fall into three beliefs; The Gods are punishing us with the demon hordes, The Gods have abandoned us, or The Gods are dead.
The ward barriers are closing in on you.
The world is collapsing around you.
The Demons will soon rule the land.
The end is near.
Hope is all but lost.

The predominant race of the land is Human (75% of the population), while there are still some Elves (15%) and Dwarves (5%) around, they, with the rest of the races (5%) are all but unknown anymore, having retreated back to their traditional homelands to try to stave off the demon hordes. If you want to run a race other than Human, Elf or Dwarf let me know.

Your character can be any non-evil alignment.

Your character can be any class except Barbarian, Paladin or Wizard. It would be nice, but not mandatory, to have one Cleric in the party.

You will be starting in the capital city of Arlodon, in the province of Aronbar, in the land of Vaniya. Maps will be on the website soon and I’ll bring them next Tuesday as well for a first look.
